I started Ma Lumière in May 2019 only and my products have changed a lot since! So what did it look like and what does it look like now?
In the beginning, they were six
When I first started putting together my brand and concept together, I wanted a collection of products that shared the same scent. I came up with 6 products: Soy Candles, Reed Diffusers, Wax Melts, Room Sprays, Hand Washes and Hand & Body Lotions
Aesthetically speaking, I wanted a product that was simple, classic and elegant:
I personally love grey and I chose this colour as my main inspiration. After designing and playing around for hours on my design software, I finally came up with a branding I was happy with. For the containers, I wanted a see through product so people could admire the purity of its content.
Then, they became three
When launching a new business and new ideas, you need to expect things to succeed and others to fail. That's the just the way it is, especially at the beginning. That’s why experimenting is so important as it helps you learn along the way.
Three of my products became best sellers pretty much straight away, which was amazing for me.
However, after a few months of trading, I quickly realise that my room sprays were not popular. I personally loved the product but the demand was just not there. The glass bottles that I chose, just by themselves, were extremely expensive to purchase and became a real cost to my little business so made the decision to stop producing them.
After a year of trading, in the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown, I took the time to look at my figures and sales from the past year. I could see that my candles, diffusers and wax melts were selling well but I also realised that my hand washes and hand & body lotions were not on the same level. I decided to stop producing those two to allow a revamp of my existing products and make room for new ones!
A new look for a new life
Lockdown gave me the time, the desire and the creativity to come up with a new look for my candles and reed diffusers:
I wanted to change the containers and come up with a purer label. I decided to go for matt black containers as I love the Scandi vibe from them. I changed the shape of my logo and kept most of my branding but removed the background image to have a pure white background instead. The 2.0 collection was born!
New opportunities
Making the decision to remove some of my original products gives me the freedom to introduce new products, which allows me to keep things fresh!
I am currently working on a brand new product to join my existing collection. On top of that, I want to introduce new sizes for my candles, including one as part of a customisable gift set.
Finally, I am also working on a monthly subscription box that is going to introduce new limited edition fragrances.
More to come soon…
